What to Expect in Canadian Government, 2021: Testing Recovery in a Move Toward a Digital Government

This IDC Perspective discusses about Canadian government testing recovery in 2021 in a move toward a digital government. For Canadian governments, crisis brought action, while recovery will be centered on the reimagination of government instead of simply rebounding. "2020 could very well mark an inflection point from the 20th-century style of government to a modern, digital way of governing," says Mark Schrutt, strategic advisor, Innovation and Public Sector Research, IDC.There are a number of building blocks in becoming a digital government. Part of the journey is balancing priorities. Governments cannot quite accomplish everything they want to within the limitations of time and money. Some things always fall through the cracks. Unfortunately, the government does not have the luxury of saying no to any part of its mandate, but it can look for ways of doing things differently. While the government has a number of priorities, its major challenge will be bridging the execution gap and turning this vision into reality. This will be the biggest test of recovery as we move toward a digitally designed government.
