What Has Been the Impact of COVID-19 on IT Vendors' European Vertical Positioning?

This IDC Market Perspective assesses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the evolution of IT vendors' vertical positioning in Europe over the past year. Moreover, recommendations for IT vendors on how to advance their vertical journey in Europe are provided. The whole analysis is supported by the 2021 version of the IDC European Vertical Strategy and Execution (VSX) Matrix, which has been updated with the latest results of the IDC European Industry Acceleration Survey, 2021, and additional post-pandemic research. "The IDC European VSX Matrix 2021 shows that IT vendors with a higher vertical strategy maturity have been able to better withstand the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their vertical execution. The crisis has then made evident the need for IT vendors to define forward-looking vertical strategy road maps to cope with future market disruptions," said Stefano Perini, senior research analyst, European Customer Insights & Analysis. "IT providers need to develop targeted go-to-market actions for industries in which buyers' perception is lower and clearly define how they can support customers' recovery and acceleration in the new normal. IT providers should also take it a step further and empower their go-to-market approaches through a higher focus on subindustry- and use-case-specific solutions to better match buyers' needs," said Luca Butiniello, research analyst, European Customer Insights & Analysis.
