Video Surveillance Backhaul: Preparing for the Video Surveillance Deluge

This IDC Perspective discusses video surveillance backhaul. An important consideration in planning a video surveillance architecture is the determining how much backhaul capacity will be required to support video surveillance operations. This is not as simple as adding bandwidth but must consider such things as the applications that will be supported, the latency which must not be exceeded, and where video processing will take place. While compression can greatly reduce the amount of backhaul bandwidth required, ultimately, video data could overwhelm business networks unless backhaul planning is included in video implementations."Backhaul planning is an essential aspect of adopting or expanding video surveillance capabilities.
