The Digital Impact of Recovery Plans in Europe: A Deep Dive on the Four Major European Economies

This IDC Market Perspective discusses Next Generation EU (NGEU), a massive investment plan set by the European Union. The NGEU, together with national recovery and resilience plans, was designed to accelerate recovery after the COVID-19 crisis and prepare for future unpredictable shocks. Countries will target areas that need to be improved, especially in light of a more digital and greener future for Europe. Despite a common final goal for all countries, the way in which each country will meet the objectives will be different."The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the urgency for economies to recover from long and heavy lockdowns and to be more prepared and resilient in managing such unpredictable shocks," said Carla La Croce, senior research analyst, Customer Insights and Analysis. "Countries need to be prepared not only economically; they also need to become strong from a structural standpoint using digital infrastructures and technologies, digital capabilities, and sustainable technologies."
