The CTO of the Future: Unifying Business Models, Digital Skills, and Tech Architecture
This IDC Perspective analyzes the rising role of the chief technology officer (CTO) in established organizations and digital-native companies. Digital business models can unlock new revenue streams, but they are more ecosystem centric and require a different technology leadership structure. As a consequence, many enterprise organizations are putting in place CTOs who focus on bridging the gap between external and internal activities and engendering a "builder mentality" in the technology organization, starting from the software development side."CTOs are a sought-after role right now in enterprises as organizations look to mimic their digital-native competitors. CTOs have to set up the 'technology factory.' More importantly, they should adapt agile and open cultures that can fit their organizations. However, the real added value they should bring is the ability to co-create products and envision new business models with senior business leaders," said Giorgio Nebuloni, AVP, Industry Strategy and DX, IDC Europe.
