The value perception varied among faculty in institution of different enrollment sizes, with those in the less than 2,500 category having the highest proportion rating it as only somewhat valuable (25.77%), while those in the 9,000+ - 22,000 category had the highest proportion rating it as not so valuable (10.05%). In general, it was scholars at the largest institutions who valued Google Scholar the most. Nearly 46% of faculty of institutions with more than 22,000 students rated it as extremely or very valuable while this was true of just about 22.5% of faculty at schools with fewer than 2,500 students.
This study looks at who, how and how much US higher education faculty use Google Scholar. The report also includes detailed data on which faculty value Google Scholar, and just how much do they value it. Survey participants also give advice on how they use Google Scholar, as well as competitive sites.
