Survey of Engineering Faculty: Satisfaction with Engineering School Management
This study presents the opinions of 123 engineering faculty drawn from major engineering programs at research universities predominantly in the USA but also in Canada, the UK, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand.
Faculty give their opinion of engineering school management in all of the following areas: sharing power with faculty, attracting students, enhancing education quality, providing proper research and teaching technology infrastructure, building maintenance, school marketing, adjudicating sexual harassment, deploying distance learning, furnishing library services, assistance for grant applications, fair treatment in hiring/promotion/tenure decisions, promulgating anti-discrimination measures – and much more. In open ended questions faculty pinpoint the best and worst moves made by their engineering school management and evaluate how they have handled the pandemic.
