We have cut our 2022 GDP forecast for Afghanistan by 2ppts to a 24.0% contraction as the Taliban regime faces civil unrest and a growing humanitarian crisis. The sharp slump in GDP in 2022 follows a 13% contraction in 2021, as the US withdrew its forces after a 20-year long war. But the true toll of the regime on the country will remain unclear for many years.
