World basic metals production is forecast to increase by 3.6% this year. This is 1.8ppt higher than last quarter largely due to China’s reopening spurring robust front-loaded metal demand and production in H1. However, production in China will likely ease over the rest of the year due to emission-related caps on steel production, but also as the Chinese economy loses momentum and external demand deteriorates amid weakening global growth.
