The US Virgin Islands now require a negative Covid test for all inbound travellers and are proving successful in the vaccination rollout. These are positive signs for recovery since the Islands’ economy is highly dependent on tourism. However, because of Covid travel protocols, tourist numbers are still much lower than pre-pandemic and aren’t set to recover to the record 2019 levels until 2024. Therefore, we now expect a much slower recovery in 2021 with GDP growth at 12.6%, down 6pp from our last forecast, but have increased our 2022 growth 1.1pp to 9%.
