Carpet & Rug Manufacturing in the UK - Industry Market Research Report
Carpet & Rug Manufacturing in the UK

Demand for carpets and rugs has been driven by rising residential and commercial building construction activity, supported by government initiatives, such as the Help to Buy scheme, ProCure22 and the elimination of stamp duty for first-time home buyers. Furthermore, the trade weighted pound benefitted export revenue. Nonetheless, falling consumer confidence and residential transactions have constrained revenue, compounded by the negative economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly disrupted normal economic activity and weighed on industry revenue. Over the five years through 2023-24, industry revenue is expected to decrease at a compound annual rate of 3.3% to £965 million.

Industry firms produce carpets, rugs and mats primarily by weaving or tufting wool, cotton and man-made fibres. This industry also includes the manufacture of knotted and needlefelt carpets. Companies that manufacture underlay and other carpet products are also included in this industry. Carpet installation and laying services are not part of the industry, nor are firms that produce floor coverings of cork, vinyl and linoleum.

This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
